the actuarial foundation TO PROVIDE FREE FINANCIAL LITERACY MATERIALS TO 10,000 U.S. HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS
Building Your Future curriculum will help teens live financially healthy lives.
SCHAUMBURG, Ill., August 30, 2010 – Thanks to a grant from The New York Life Foundation, nonprofit group The Actuarial Foundation will disseminate 10,000 individual sets of Building Your Future, a financial literacy curriculum, to high school teachers across the country at no cost. The curriculum is designed to help students master the basics of personal finance and prepare them for life after they graduate from high school.
“We are grateful for the continued support from the New York Life Foundation,” said Eileen Streu, executive director of The Actuarial Foundation. “In these challenging economic times, it is more important than ever for teens to have the knowledge and skills they need to manage their money wisely and to prepare for life after high school.”
The Building Your Future curriculum covers:
- Book One: Banking covers savings accounts, checking accounts, credit cards, and taxes;
- Book Two: Financing covers loans and interest, home loans, auto loans, and insurance; and
- Book Three: Investing covers bonds, stocks, mutual funds, risk and diversification, and inflation.
Each book is complemented by a teacher’s manual.
High school teachers who would like to receive a free individual set of the Building Your Future financial literacy curriculum need to send their name, school, and school mailing address to Programs@ActFnd.org. Free sets will be mailed on a first-come, first-served basis. All the books can also be downloaded at no cost or teachers may order printed booklets at a nominal cost.
